Reading is Dreaming with Open Eyes...

Hello! Hello! Hello!

How’s everyone doing today?

With everything going on in the world, I forgot to post this month‘s book review, and for that I apologize!

If you’re following me on IG, books_n_bottles, then you may have noticed recently I downloaded two ebooks from author Nia Rich.

She just so happened to be doing a giveaway, and I’ll never turn down a free book. Unless it science fiction. Or a biography. Or an autobiography, LOL.

Anyway, I downloaded two of her books, and the one I’ll be reviewing today is titled Never Going Back.

Miss Rich doesn’t wait long to throw the drama right at us. In the very beginning scene, we meet Briana Taylor who for many years has endured a relationship full of lies, infidelity, and unfortunately, abuse. The story takes us on a very bumpy ride from the very first time they met all the way through the abuse.

We go through each traumatizing experience with Briana, and every apology/excuse she accepts from her boyfriend, Bryan, that makes her go back. It was interesting to experience Briana’s emotions during this time, from her wanting to leave, to being too scared to tell anyone what was going on, to realizing she still loves Bryan, to her completely wanting out.

At some point, we’ve all seen, read, or heard stories about domestic abuse, and I believe this story hits the nail right on the head. Through Briana’s emotions, we were able to really get a feel on why women stay in abusive relationships as long as they do.

There are other characters you’ll meet along the way: Bryan’s twin daughters and best friend, Briana’s best friends Imani and Mercedes, Briana’s coworker, Malik, and last, but NOT least, we meet Jade aka Jersey, Bryan’s side chick.

Yes chile, the side chick as her own story line too. Which is definitely an interesting one.

Never Going Back doesn’t just give us insight on Briana’s story, it shows us how manipulative and vindictive a man can really be, despite the good we want to see in him. It shows how we as women can fall for pretty words, that come from pretty lips, because we so badly want our happily ever after.

It’s definitely an eye opener for anyone who may find themselves in a similar situation, and hopefully gives them the strength to leave.

Overall, I would give this story four stars.

Anyone interested in reading it, I must let you know, there are some grammatical errors, but it doesn’t take away from the storyline. There is also a lot of detail I personally didn’t think was necessary, but it helps paint a clear picture for those who may prefer more details than others.

I am interested in finishing the Never Going Back series, since I believe there are maybe seven more books. I’m curious if Briana ever changes her mind.

Wanna know what her final decision was when it comes to Bryan and the toxic relationship he put her in? You have to read the book, sorry! LOL

Have you read any books by this author? If so, let me know! Have you read this book? Let me know what you thought.

As always, thank you so much for joining me today. I hope this review was helpful.

I’ve decided to take break from fiction for a minute and jump back into my fantasy books. Want to know what I’ll be reading next? Here’s a hint, Anne Rice is the author…

Stay tuned for my wine review on June 3rd.

And be on the lookout June 29th for my next book review. Talk to you guys soon!
